The digital anthropology magazine SAPIENS.org is releasing its first podcast series titled SAPIENS: A Podcast for Everything Human to ask and answer questions surrounding the human experience.

    Series hosts Dr. Jen Shannon from the University of Colorado, Dr. Esteban Gómez from the University of Denver, and SAPIENS.org Editor-in-Chief Dr. Chip Colwell from the Denver Museum of Nature and Science will speak with scientists from around the globe to source answers rooted in anthropology. Stories range from exploring the complications and accuracy of at-home DNA tests, to how outer space is a cultural invention.

    “I’m starting this series to explore how varied and unpredictable the human condition is,” explains Dr. Colwell. “You can predict the movement of the stars with absolute precision. And yet I can't predict what you're going to say next or what I'm going to think next or where as a society we're headed. There's just this immense mystery about being human. Anthropology is the science that tries to unpack that, tries to help us interpret it and make sense of human history, biology, and culture.”

    The first season will be 10 episodes, running from August 14 through December 18, and is funded by the Wenner-Gren Foundation and produced by House of Pod.     San Clemente, CA, August 13, 2018 --(PR.com)-- The Swift020 UAS successfully flew over densely forested areas within the Ishikawa prefecture in Japan. Working with members of the Ishikawa Prefecture Research Center for Agriculture and Forestry, the local forest cooperative association and key forestry industry leaders, the flights were held July 23-25, 2018.

    Due to the density of the trees, the size of the area, and the problematic topography, sustainable forest management can be challenging. “The beautiful forest terrain of Ishikawa is a great environment to showcase the fully autonomous capabilities of the Swift020 UAS. We were able to take off and land vertically in a small restricted area. Our ability to quickly transition to efficient horizontal flight enables us to cover a vast amount of area in a short amount of time,” said Rick Heise, President, and CSO of Swift Engineering.

    Developed for these types of missions, the Swift020 has the unique ability to take off and land like a helicopter and transition to horizontal flight. This ability gives a considerable advantage over traditional quadcopters.

    The forested area is home to some of the oldest cedar trees in the Ishikawa prefecture. Culling old growth is a conservation method to ensure the future and health of the environment. “In less than a 15-minute demonstration, which is barely 10% of the endurance of the Swift020 UAS, we were able to collect over 180 acres worth of high fidelity data to support sustainable harvesting plans for the forestry industry,” said Alex Echeverria, Director of Business Development for Swift Engineering. “By utilizing cutting edge data collection, analysis and reporting technologies, we are able to provide a full turn-key service model that provides our customers with the right information when they need it.”

    Swift’s proprietary software suite was able to optimize the data collection of high definition imagery and provide next day 3-D imaging to identify the overall health conditions of the forest.

    “We provided a 3D point cloud, 2D Geo referenced Orthomosaic imagery, as well as elevation and terrain data for the site. The imagery we provided can be easily shared among decision-makers to aid in greater collaboration across all organizations. This type of fast response and collaboration will provide forestry officials on-demand, real time actionable data to help manage resources in an efficient and cost-effective manner,” added Echeverria.

    The first of its kind, SynQ challenges existing platforms such as Slack, Discord, and Telegram.

    “With SynQ, we’re addressing the failures of applications currently used by the crypto community,” said CEO Enrique Gutierrez. “They’ve been designed for people other than crypto users, and it shows. The platform also lets moderators deactivate, ban, and mute users for specified periods of time.

    Additionally, SynQ is designed to address the ongoing problem of crypto spam and scams. Researchers recently identified nearly 15,000 Twitter bots created to scam users out of cryptocurrency, while a July report by the Kaspersky cyber-security firm claimed that users lost millions of dollars in ETH in 2017 to crypto scams.

    “One of the biggest complaints we’ve heard is crypto moderators don’t have the tools to develop their communities securely,” said COO Nick Mancini. “SynQ uses a closed API system that keeps scammers from creating bots and spam scripts that run phishing scams.”

    The web version of SynQ also features TraQ, a command-line bot that automatically brings crypto market data into the user’s notifications. TraQ lets users obtain price updates, set price alerts, and create cryptocurrency pairing notifications.

    With these features, SynQ has developed the multi-functional chat messaging and enhanced management tools that crypto communities need. Now crypto communities finally have a specific platform for sharing information, learning from other users, and engaging in critical discussion.

    CryptoSyndicate has already utilized SynQ’s multi-channel functionality to create a designated community space for its members.

    New Lab played host to Girls Who Code, a non-profit that supports girls in computer science and aims to close the gender gap in technology. The workshop was delivered in a half day, developed in conjunction with AT&T, and was established under the ethos of New Lab’s educational programs: to inspire students of all backgrounds to pursue STEAM as a pathway to career opportunities.

    Through tours, hands-on demonstrations, design challenges, and a panel discussion with female entrepreneurs and engineers, New Lab provided exposure and an opportunity to think critically about technology, interact with resident tech experts, and gain exposure to a variety of STEAM career paths. The visit was funded by the AT&T, whose mission is to support STEAM education in a variety of fields.

    The educational workshop curriculum was delivered in collaboration with a variety of New Lab member companies including, Shared Studios, a virtual meeting room that enabled live conversation between Girls Who Code and young coders in Gaza; Honeybee Robotics, a robotics company that shared insights into female entrepreneurism and an example of a robotics system Honeybee designed for the Mars Rover; and Farmshelf, an automated hydroponic vertical farming system that is revolutionizing the way we think about ecology and food sources.

    It is hard to know where to start with these press dockets. That is what it is really about though right? We don’t skip to the end of a book or watch the last five minutes of the movie. We want to know about the hero, who they are, what they do, and why they do it.

    G.H.O.S.T. is an isometric RPG shooter, with inspiration from the Mass Effect and Star Ocean series, where the hero of this sci fi fantasy universe, is you. The game allows you to pick who you are, male or female, skin color, height and weight, and then throws you into the action to determine, and maybe even show you a little more, about who you are. As you progress through the game your kindness to other people, loyalty to your missions and contracts, and morality in tough situations, or lack of any of these, will show you where your values lie. In addition to that, this game puts you in tough decisions, decisions that plague our world today, in the past, and far into the future.

    Yeah this game has a few different endings, not many, but everyone’s journey is unique. In fact, "the narative team challenged me to play the game through the exact same way twice, or even watch the same stream of the game twice." It is not impossible, but each NPC responds to your character in different ways, nearly every mission offers you a choice, and each choice can be dealt with in different ways. The choices and personalities of the NPCs reacting to your choices, helps tell the story and bring the game to life. Sometimes you have to chose one mission over another, and dying doesn’t lead to a respawn, but either a different way to tackle the mission, or complete failure. This game isn’t about the end, but instead about the Hero’s Journey, your journey.

    In addition to each unique single player experience, the game offers co op so you can play your story with your friends, arena combat for massive multiplayer battles, and even reworked maps for a variety of co op and versus missions, deathmatches, and more multiplayer modes. They also offer a story modes for those that don’t game, but still love a story where your choices can change the galaxy, removing all the combat from the game.

    In addition to a free mobile game accessible to everyone, this company is devoted to giving. The first plan for their charity outreach programs are large tournaments with an entry fee where all of the proceeds go to a predetermined charity that you will help them chose through their social media communities. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2017. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2014 is $100,000; the minimum for 2017 is $2 million.
