SA's Knife Capital Invests in Pharmaceutical Temperature Monitoring Solution: PharmaScout

Cape Town, South Africa, November 08, 2018 --(PR.com)-- PharmaScout, a single point solution developed by Cape Town based Internet of Things (“IoT”) business 5nines Technologies, overcomes a litany of hurdles faced by healthcare professionals wishing to mitigate legal risk and meet the compulsory safety and quality standards of stored temperature sensitive pharmaceutical products.

5nines/ PharmaScout has been angel-funded to date, but this week received an undisclosed Series A funding round from Knife Capital – a leading venture capital firm with offices in Cape Town and London. Knife Capital invests via a consortium of funding partnerships, including SARS section 12J Venture Capital Company KNF Ventures and select family offices.

The funding will be applied to accelerate product rollout to pharmacies, medical practitioners and pharmaceutical warehouses and enhance new product development for the international market. PharmaScout already gained significant traction with blue chip customers such as Clicks and Alpha Pharm, while conducting pilots with local hospital groups. They have also commenced R&D activities to provide cold chain management products applicable to the retail, restaurant and hospitality industries.

In 2015 the South African Pharmacy Act was amended to require that anyone storing, distributing or administering thermolabile pharmaceutical products must use appropriate storage facilities, electronic temperature monitoring instruments and conduct regular checks, including annual temperature mapping of storage areas and calibration of temperature sampling equipment. Unfortunately, most domestic fridges fail to meet storage standards and specially designed laboratory fridges are impractical for small medical practices. To solve this challenge, PharmaScout recently launched their own range of refrigerators designed for storing pharmaceutical products in a compliant way. PharmaScout owns and controls the entire pharmaceutical cold-chain ecosystem, offering healthcare professionals peace of mind by providing the tools and guidance to conveniently achieve best practices and compliance with mandatory temperature management requirements.

“There are few pharmaceutical quality and safety issues more important than those relating to the storage and handling of temperature sensitive products. PharmaScout and its related product suite deliver the most convenient and cost-effective way of meeting the professional responsibility & legal burden of temperature monitoring compliance in South Africa,” says Doug Siepman, CEO and Co-Founder of 5nines. “We are delighted to partner with Knife Capital at this stage of our growth journey. The team brings a wealth of experience and market access networks to the business that we are already starting to tap,” said Siepman.

PharmaScout is an exciting investment opportunity for Knife Capital. “It contains all the elements that we look for in a portfolio company,” says Keet van Zyl, Investment Partner at Knife. “There is a compelling investment case underpinned by recurring revenue, great people with execution abilities resulting in proven traction and intellectual property elements that make the technology scalable. Macro factors in the industry such as increased legislation and auditable but affordable medical compliance standards also play in PharmaScout’s favour.”

PharmaScout addresses the core pillars of a temperature compliance solution: appropriate hardware and software elements, temperature mapping of storage areas including refrigerators, periodic calibration of the temperature measuring equipment and continuous monitoring that includes alarms, notifications, data storage & daily reporting. These capabilities open up local and international growth opportunities and partnership channels in different cold chain verticals.

Witlingo Launches Castlingo for Micro-Casting on Amazon Alexa

$

McLean, VA, November 08, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Witlingo, a McLean, VA Software as a Service product company focused on enabling individuals and companies of all sizes to deliver highly usable conversations with voice services such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Microsoft Cortana, and soon on Samsung Bixby, today announced the launch of Castlingo. The Castlingo package is an offering that enables end users to publish conversational voice experiences by using the Castlingo Mobile App, available now on both the iOS and Android mobile platforms.

Acclaimed authors Tim Wendel, Marylee McDonald, Judy Dawn, Amy Collins, Weber State University Dean and Professor David Ferro, and Villanova Professor Brett Frischmann, have all been using Castlingo to share thoughts and ideas about their books and the process of writing and publishing. CEO of Unified Computer Intelligence Corporation and technology blogger Leor Grebler uses Castlingo as a companion cast to his Medium articles.

“I love the ease with which I can share a thought,” said Tim Wendel, author of 13 fiction and non-fiction books and writer in residence at Johns Hopkins University. “No painful typing on a flat surface, I just say what’s on my mind and it’s immediately available on millions of these smart speakers.” Marylee MacDonald, on her part, likes that her audience is able to hear the passion in her voice when she discusses the art and craft of writing. “I can pack layers and layers of subtle emotion in seconds of audio that I can’t do with text, or even an image or video. There is something uniquely special that focuses the mind on the pure voice of someone speaking to you.”

Lisa Brandt, London, Ontario based radio talk show host, media expert and author of “Make the Media Want You,” uses Castlingo to share advice with her radio audience and her readers. “It’s quick. It’s easy. And it lets me be spontaneous," said Ms. Brandt. And with the arrival of Amazon Echo devices in Canada, it’s really exciting to be on the cutting edge new media technology like this.”

With Castlingo, in addition to listening to audio content on their smart speakers, users are also able to search for audio content by just speaking. For example, if you had heard your favorite author whose skill you have enabled on your Amazon Echo talk about the importance of a novel’s first sentence and want to listen to that audio again, simply say, “Alexa, find ‘First Sentence’” while the skill is up, and the audio will be found and played back for you.

Bradley Metrock, Executive Producer of the Digital Book World conference which recently took place in Nashville, Tennessee, used Castlingo to post quick updates right from the floor, giving his audience audio glimpses of the mood during the conference. Online video reporter Marc Strassman, another of the earliest users of Castlingo, uses his app and skill to share news and insights on climate change and other current affair issues. You can check out his posts by enabling the Marc on the Air skill for Alexa.

Carolyn Peoples, Service Coordinator at Weinberg Place Senior Living in Baltimore, Maryland, uses Castlingo daily to share information with residents about shuttle schedules, lunch menus, doctor visits, and other special events. Residents who have an Amazon Echo device can easily enable the skill and simply ask, “Alexa, launch The Weinberg Place.” “It is a big deal for our residents not only that they can get the information they want by just asking,” said Ms. Peoples, “but that they hear it in my voice, the voice of someone they know and trust.”

Digital marketers and consultancies with deep expertise in a specific domain can follow the lead of Pragmatic Digital's husband and wife founders, Scot and Susan Westwater, and post regular audios to provide their audiences with valuable highlights from the content they are publishing on their long form podcast and blogs. “We love that we can let our clients and prospects hear our voices,” said Susan Westwater, “because voice lets them get an immediate feel for our personality and passion. All they need to say is, ‘Alexa, launch Pragmatic Talk’ and we are there!”

Free Technical Seminars in UK Help Engineers and Managers Build Reliable, Robust, Secure Systems

$

Wirral, United Kingdom, November 09, 2018 --(PR.com)-- To help engineers and design teams meet the challenges of increasingly connected and complex embedded systems, LDRA has teamed up with QNX and its distributor Direct Insight to present free technical seminars that teach the latest design methodologies and techniques for ensuring safe and secure embedded development. Three seminars, to be offered in November in the U.K, will guide attendees in the latest techniques for building safety and security into the embedded application while maximising productivity. To register, visit: www.embedded-safety-security.co.uk

Many embedded systems have an inherent need for safe operation. Others, although not required to meet defined safety standards, are becoming more complex and face increasing security challenges that come with connectivity. Design teams must keep abreast of current development methodologies and use ever more sophisticated techniques to ensure quality and reliability.

To help developers address these challenges, company experts from LDRA and QNX will use interactive examples to show how software quality underpins safety- and security-critical design. Safety integrity standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and IEC 62304 will be discussed along with the relationship between security and safety. Instructors will examine key topics for the delivery of safety- and security-critical applications from platform selection to development and verification methods, including operating system choices, coding standards selection, and verification techniques. In addition, developers can attend optional hands-on labs and join discussions on emerging technologies such as redundancy and safety via virtualisation.

“Embedded systems such as those found in automotive, aerospace and defense, industrial control, and medical devices are becoming increasingly connected, and engineers recognise that these systems cannot be safe unless they are secure,” said Ian Hennell, Operations Director, LDRA. “Our technical seminars train engineers and managers safe and secure systems development in an integrated environment that will ultimately reduce time-to-market and improve overall product quality.”

“We see more and more developers taking safety and security seriously now – especially given the growth of connected systems,” said David Pashley, Direct Insight Managing Director. “The possibility of a problem that might simultaneously take out thousands of embedded devices at once should not be an afterthought. These seminars are an ideal way to discover techniques that mitigate such threats.”

Register for seminars
These one-day seminars are open to technical and product managers, system architects, development and test engineers, and others concerned with the safety, security, and quality of applications. Seminars are scheduled for:

· 9:30–16:00 on 27 November – Edinburgh
· 9:30–16:00 on 28 November – Reading
· 9:30–16:00 on 29 November – Leicester

To register, visit: www.embedded-safety-security.co.uk

Saelig Introduces RMS-06x0 for Radiated Power Measurements Without an Anechoic Chamber

$

0

Fairport, NY, November 09, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Saelig Company, Inc. has introduced the portable, compact MegiQ RMS-0640/0660 Radiation Measurement Systems, turnkey systems that can measure antenna and equipment radiation patterns and Total Radiated Power (TRP) of an RF device from 600MHz to 4/6GHz. The RMS-06x0 system consists of a measurement antenna, a measurement receiver with optional signal generator, a motorized turntable, and application software for system control and calculations. This system removes the need for an expensive anechoic chamber for most applications. Moderate lab space is all that is needed in order to obtain accurate 3-axis radiation patterns and TRP calculations. Extensive testing and comparison with anechoic test lab measurements has shown that the measurement accuracy of the RMS-06x0 approximates very well to anechoic measurements.

The application software provided makes the measurement procedure straightforward. It provides for storage and reporting of the experimental results, which can be presented in Field Strength, ERP and antenna gain. Total Radiated Power and other statistics are calculated from 3-axis rotations. Total Isotropic Sensitivity (TIS) of a wireless device can also be calculated to comply with certain classes of device.

Two turntables are available for the RMS-06x0 package, a light-weight turntable for small products and a heavy duty table for larger devices. The measurement unit has a dual channel receiver that allows measuring two polarizations in one rotation, allowing a 3-axis measurement to be taken in less than 2 minutes.

Devices under test can be measured standalone in constant carrier mode, while a separate generator output is available that allows for full characterization and frequency sweep of custom antennas and prototypes.

One of the most important properties of a wireless device is how much it actually radiates, or the efficiency of an antenna. This is typically measured in an anechoic chamber at an expensive test lab. Another time-consuming and somewhat inaccurate method is by moving around the product in an open field. Many wireless developers don’t have the large budget for a conventional radiation test setup, or the time to perform open range testing. The RMS-06x0 gives a true and rapid insight into a product’s RF performance for a fractional cost of alternative methods.

Made in The Netherlands by MegiQ, a developer of low cost RF test and measurement tools, the RMS-06x0 Radiation Measurement System is available now from Saelig Company, Inc. their USA technical distributor. CanIDeal Open for Vendors

$

Los Angeles, CA, November 09, 2018 --(PR.com)-- CanIDeal is pleased to announce the vendor side launch of it’s first of a kind, B2B e-commerce platform for all things cannabis and cannabis related.

"We are very excited that starting today, vendors of all the products related to the cannabis industry can start listing their products on our world-class e-commerce portal found at www.canideal.com

"While we are only selling THC products in Oregon, any non-THC and .3 CBD products can now be listed for sale in every one of the 22 recreational and medical states through our platform. We are thrilled to be able to offer the industry’s first national e-commerce solution for everyone," stated Joseph Farruggia CEO of CanIDeal. “With our vendor side launch, CanIDeal becomes the first, fully interactive, online legal marketplace for the Cannabis, Hemp, CBD and every related product to the industry.”

Tom Adams of BDS Analytics and Editor of the ArcView Report whose team crafted the CanIDeal business plan stated in the text plan, "Think of CanIDeal as the Amazon of the cannabis industry, but with much larger B2B, not B2C, transactions. It brings convenience, price, and availability of cannabis business owners. It connects a variety of transactional and ancillary services selling wholesale products in the retail and medical cannabis market."

CanIDeal's safe and legal software platform, optimized for geo-specific transactions, means that CanIDeal provides a tool for the full spectrum of cannabis supply chain vendors that conforms to regulations in each state.

By establishing a trusted global brand for cannabis businesses, connecting legal product suppliers with legal buyers, CanIDeal expects to achieve the transactional volume necessary to reach economy-of-scale savings, not just in spite of an inherently fragmented worldwide cannabis market, but because of it.

“We’ve made the sign-up process very simple, go to www.canideal.com, register for an account, and you can list all of your products. If you are a THC product producer inside of Oregon now, you can list all of your products for sale. When we open up the buyer side shortly after the first of the year and vendors can sell their products nationwide, that’s when the fun really begins. Color Marketing Group Announces 2020+ North American Key Color – Electrum

$

Philadelphia, PA, November 09, 2018 --(PR.com)-- A color of alternating currents, Electrum is the 2020+ key trend color for North America. The complex, green influenced gold has a chameleon quality that allows it to shift between the two hues, and take on altered energy in concert with other hues. This is not a chameleon color to match the background, but one to enhance it.

The green and gold essences of Electrum represent different paths as 2020+ approaches, and symbolize the complexity of the future. The green element can signify beneficial components, be empowering and certainly represents the continuing trend of environmental awareness, but it's no longer simply awareness, it is action. Discerning new uses of vegetation and algae as biofuels, and alternate protein sources, as well as building materials, will better connect us to the planet and help reassess how we use our resources.

The green is also a warning of the poisonous effect many of our actions have on our world. It is a sophisticated green that sparks discussion, planning, and engagement. Electrum is energizing as a color with which to take heed. Be bold, fix things, and be ready to celebrate the beauty that green can create.

Gold is an important component of Electrum. It not only offers a yellow cast to the color, but becomes the metallic influence over it as well. When shimmering with a metallic cast, it creates an otherworldly sense. It is not merely a mineral, but something that glows from within, offering unique qualities to whatever it embraces. It is why Electrum is seen as trend-forward across all industries, from fashion, to automotive, to home. It is

It may be complex with the ability to follow numerous paths, but Electrum is a key trend color for design, and for living, in an age of numerous possibilities.

The Expertise Economy, a Book from Degreed, Helps Lift the Lid on the Skills Gap

$

San Francisco, CA, November 10, 2018 --(PR.com)-- In today’s rapidly changing world, one of the key organizational challenges is developing workers’ skills to ensure success now – and for the future.

To help meet this challenge, Kelly Palmer, a Silicon Valley-based thought-leader from LinkedIn, Degreed, and Yahoo, along with David Blake, the co-founder of the Ed-tech pioneer, Degreed, have shared their experiences of this phenomenon as well as describing how some of the smartest companies in the world are turning learning and expertise into a major competitive advantage.

Kelly and David have shared these experiences in a book called “The Expertise Economy” (ISBN: 978-1-4736-7700-5, $29.95, 256 pages) whose European launch takes place in Zurich, in Switzerland, on 15th November. Published by Nicholas Brealey Publishing, the book is subtitled, “how the smartest companies use learning to engage, compete, and succeed.”

Setting out and drawing on the science of how human beings learn, the authors offer examples from leading companies around the world which are driving the conversation about how to create experts and align learning innovation with business strategy.

The book includes interviews with people from companies including Google, LinkedIn, Airbnb, Unilever, NASA, Booz Allen Hamilton, and MasterCard. It also includes the views of thought leaders in learning and education such as Sal Khan and Todd Rose; as well as from the Thinkers50 list-makers Clayton Christensen, Daniel Pink, and Whitney Johnson.

Kelly Palmer said, “The workplace is experiencing large-scale transition with digitization, automation, and acceleration. Critical skills and expertise are imperative if organizations and their workers are to succeed in the future - and today’s most forward-thinking companies are being proactive in adapting to these changes.

“‘The Expertise Economy’ dares readers to let go of outdated and traditional ways of closing the skills gap, and it challenges CEOs and business leaders to embrace the urgency of re-skilling and upskilling the workforce,” she added. “Ultimately, companies big and small need to transform their workers into experts and, ultimately, their biggest competitive advantage – and this book provides some key insights to show you how to do this.”

“Disruption in any industry is a process, not a one-time event. With so much change on the horizon, Kelly and David have highlighted how firms must harness learning to stay in the game,” commented Clayton Christensen, the Kim B Clark Professor of Business Administration, at Harvard Business School and New York Times best-selling author of “The Innovators Dilemma.”
