Pentek Introduces New Line of Multiband, Modular RF Downconverters

Upper Saddle River, NJ, January 11, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Pentek, Inc., today announced a new line of multiband, modular RF slot receivers: the Model 8111 series accepts RF signals over the range of 800 MHz to 3 GHz, downconverting them to a 225 MHz IF signal suitable for A/D conversion by any of several Pentek signal acquisition modules.

“The Model 8111 complements Pentek’s software radio offerings by capturing the RF signal right from the antenna and delivering the IF output straight into Pentek A/D boards,” said Paul Mesibov, chief technology officer and co-founder of Pentek. “Some customers do not need an RF receiver that tunes across a wide spectrum, but rather just a slice or ‘slot’. Our new slot receivers not only deliver the required high-performance downconversion, they also offer a lower-power solution that is smaller, lighter and less expensive, about one fifth the cost of a wide range receiver,” he added.

Tuning Accuracy
The internal frequency-synthesized local oscillator can be locked to an external 10 MHz reference signal for precise tuning accuracy. Alternatively, an on-board, low noise 10 MHz oven-controlled oscillator (OCXO) can be used as the frequency reference. For custom applications, an external local oscillator signal can also be supplied.

Preselector Options
Each tuner is provisioned with one of seven different 400 MHz bandwidth preselector filters covering the RF input range from 800 MHz to 3 GHz. The preselect filters overlap slightly to ensure that there are no gaps in RF spectrum coverage.

Wide IF Output
An 80 MHz wide IF output is provided at 225 MHz, suitable for A/D conversion using Pentek's high-performance signal acquisition products.

Programmable Input Level
Low noise figure amplifiers and two programmable attenuators accommodate RF input signals from -60 dBm to -20 dBm, and deliver a nominal IF output level of 0 dBm. Higher-level signals can be attenuated prior to input.

Easy Set Up and Connectivity
The Model 8111 modules are designed to be used as stand-alone or integrated on carrier modules in a 3U VPX size or larger. The module features a MicroUSB port for programming, a Micro-D connector for power and SMA connectors for signals, all in a high-performance, shielded enclosure. Future modules from Pentek will be available on a range of popular open standard form factors.

Weidlinger Associates Engineers New US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center for the National WWII Museum

(www.wai.com), collaborated with architectural firm Voorsanger Architects PC on the design of The National WWII Museum’s new multi-building campus, including the recently completed $35-million US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center. The pavilion will officially open to the public on Sunday, January 13.

The US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center marks the completion of the fifth phase of the museum’s $325-million expansion. The building showcases a variety of artifacts that represent the “big guns” of American military might, including the B-17E Flying Fortress and the B-25J Mitchell bomber, as well as an SBD-3 Dauntless dive-bomber, a TBM Avenger torpedo bomber, a P-51D Mustang fighter, and a Corsair F4U-4 fighter. The pavilion has a massive wall honoring WWII Medal of Honor recipients and an interactive submarine experience based on the final mission of the USS Tang.

In 2004, Voorsanger and Weidlinger won an international competition to design the museum’s new campus. Voorsanger’s plan was for five low-rise pavilions to be grouped around an interior parade ground. Their visual continuity was enhanced by a dramatic 540-foot-long, fabric “peace canopy” and sunshade that provided “an urban-scale, recognizable image signifying a national museum.”

“We are proud to continue to support the museum’s expansion which, for us, began with our participation in the original awards submittal in 2003,” said Weidlinger Principal Tian-Fang Jing, who served as lead for the structural engineering team. “Given the museum’s location, one of the main challenges for Weidlinger was to protect all of the structures, including the fabric canopy and the highly irregular and massive precast facades, from the impact of major storms. The Freedom Pavilion was a separate challenge because of its uninterrupted exhibit space, transparent and irregular facade, and unusual display items.”

The 96-foot-high US Freedom Pavilion has freestanding columns, no interior floors, and a sloping facade consisting of irregularly shaped horizontal panels, up to 40 feet long, that cantilever as much as six feet. Ten-foot-deep trusses support the pavilion’s roof, along with its facade and suspended “weighty” exhibits, including a B17 from the war. Funds for the pavilion came from a $20-million Congressional grant through the United States Department of Defense and a $15-million gift from The Boeing Company. This gift from Boeing, which built the B-17, represents the largest private contribution the museum has received to date.

The project was the recipient of a 2011 Public/Institutional Design Excellence Award from the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute. The huge precast pieces, generally 8 feet high and from 30 to 50 feet long, have no 90-degree corners, and all of their joints are offset from each other. Construction will begin in 2013 on the canopy, which will preside over the campus at 130 feet, 30 feet above the tallest building, and be supported on a 150-foot-high V-shaped pedestal that broadcasts the dual messages of peace and victory.

Called “A Salute to Freedom,” and presented by CenturyLink, the opening marks a long weekend of celebration as an array of VIPs, veterans, and young scholars from every state in the union and the District of Columbia gather in New Orleans for the occasion just weeks before the city plays host to Super Bowl XLVII. Attending will be members of the national news media, political leaders, corporate presidents, student historians, and hundreds of military heroes from WWII and subsequent wars, as well as from all branches of service.

“We are the nation’s WWII museum,” National WWII Museum President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Gordon H. “Nick” Mueller said, “and with the opening of the US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center, we’ll have even more to display to our community, our visitors, and the world. The materials for H-LIST also exhibit good electrical properties. The inventor, Joseph Tabe, asserts that the incorporation of silicon substrate in the outfit would further enable the outfit to exhibit proper contractions and expansions at key sections of the body, while the electrical characteristics of the material would further advance detection sensitivity and provide better detection selectivity. The detection platform is disposed with nano-sensors each configured for specific detection. H-LIST provides mobile detection to allow the detection of weapons of mass destruction in a hostile environment, enabling the monitoring of physiological conditions of security personnel within the vicinity of the detection. Detection data are communicated directly to the command and communication post within the CSSNE. H-LIST is self-powered and harvests energy from its surroundings. This outfit can also be used at hospitals and other community establishments to monitor the health of patients and other personnel.

H-LIST is further disposed with GPS sensors being configured for directing responders to the vicinity of the detection and to locate personnel, while providing firsthand security network information “FSNI” about the conditions of the environment, including the conditions of each personnel to accelerate medical preparation. The silicon substrates being used are not limited to: polydimethylsiloxane, amorphous silica, petroleum distillates, methyltriacetoxy silane, or ethyltriacetoxy silane through which sensors may be embedded into to enable the detection platform. H-LIST further protects personnel’s body from getting in contact with external exposure to environmental emergency conditions, exhibiting flexibility, toughness, and further serving as body waterproof. Optical properties of thin films are employed in the integrated circuit for converting solar energy into electrical energy. H-LIST employs reflectance sensors in association with a linearized liquid nitrogen detector. The SSN environment is configured with software being incorporated for communications with CMOS multiple antennas on chip. The CMOS multiple antennas on chip is a receiver/transmitter operable for communicating signals relating to videos, graphics, images, voices, and texts data. The CMOS multiple antennas on chip are further disposed for Internet applications operable for communications and for providing faster data transmission rate. The CMOS multiple antenna further provides communications clarity.

The CMOS multiple antennas further comprises a chip configured with the integrated circuit and disposed with nano wires. The nano wires are embedded in silicon substrate and fused/etched in nano-fiber. The nano-fiber is alloyed with meta-material structure comprising surface cavity to enable radio frequency antenna applications that are operable for providing intra-chip antenna network. Power amplifiers are disposed with the antennas to accelerate communications and data transmissions over short range to longer ranges and to realize high operating frequencies. This would allow high data rate communications and reduce atmospheric absorption. The incorporation of the CMOS multiple antennas on chip is enabled to further realize wireless network region better than 60GHz for wireless communications “WC”, military battlefield applications “MBA”, vehicular communication applications “VCA”, electronic devices applications “EDA’, high speed data transmission applications ‘HSDTA”, and homeland security intelligence applications “HISA.” The chip would allow faster graphical data transmission to expedite SSN information sharing. The nano wires are provided for many reasons, including: to convert electromagnetic wave into electrical energy, to protect against oxygen absorptions, to avoid interference from other networks, to protect against human health concerns, and to provide a desirable platform for high definition television “HDTV” signals, wherein high data rate communications would be operable at the realized transmission frequencies. In this regard, the antenna is comprised of field programmable gate array “FPGA.” The FPGA is disposed with electromagnetic material consisting of meta-material coupled to semiconductor substrate for communications with the nano wires. The nano wires are signal interconnect lines in communication with the shorted end of the FPGA metamaterial structured surface to realize electromagnetic wave energy harvesting, high speed optical switching, and modulation in telecommunication applications.

Taipei, Taiwan, January 12, 2013 --(PR.com)-- A compact and energy-efficient 28W AC flood light for indoor and outdoor applications.

GlacialLight, a division of the Taiwanese technology manufacturer, GlacialTech Inc., has added GL-FL30S-V2, a 28W AC-input LED Flood Light with Philips Lumileds LED chips and passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor to its popular range of energy efficient LED lighting products.

This light-weight (1.4kg) flood light, GL-FL30S-V2, provides bright and pleasing illumination suitable for indoor and outdoor retail, commercial and industrial external lighting applications. When installed at an ideal height of between 1.8 and 2.5 meters, it is an excellent lighting solution for indoor car parks, private driveways and public spaces such as hallways.

The passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor of GL-FL30S-V2 lowers energy bills and reduces light pollution by preventing unnecessary use of lighting and power. The 180° sensor and its reaction time of 0.6 to 1.5 m/s ensures that the flood light switches on at the instance when movement is detected.

The GL-FL30S-V2 PIR sensor can be adjusted to detect motion from 3 lux to 2000 lux, making it ideal for both day and night use. The range of motion sensitivity can also be modified between a distance of 5 meters and 12 meters, enabling the sensor to be used in both small and large spaces. The duration of illumination time is also adjustable between a minimum of 10 seconds and a maximum of approximately 7 minutes.

Two color variants of GL-FL30S-V2 are available. GL-FL30S-V2-CW provides a 5700K (Cool White) beam with a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 70, and GL-FL30S-V2-WW, which illuminates with a 3000K (Warm White) beam and a CRI of 85. Both color versions have an input voltage range of 100V to 240V AC and are available with either 30° or 60° beam angle.

With the environment in mind GlacialLight designed the GL-FL30S-V2 Flood Light to contain no hazardous chemicals, such as mercury, and to create no harmful radiation emissions such as UV or IR, making them more eco-friendly than traditional lighting. This AC input flood light is also more economically friendly compared to traditional lighting products because of both lower power consumption and greater amount of light produced.
