Personal Teller Machines Featured at New SAFE Federal Credit Union Branch

Columbia, SC, August 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- SAFE Federal Credit Union (http://www.SafeFed.org) is the first South Carolina-based financial institution to offer Personal Teller Machines, allowing members to drive up to the machines – just as they do with an ATM – and interact with a live teller via a video screen and audio connection.

“We like to think of it as Skype-like banking from the convenience of your car,” said Toby Hayes, vice president of marketing for SAFE.

The machines are located at SAFE’s new branch, at 727 Fashion Drive in northeast Columbia. SAFE has moved its branch operations to the new building following relocation from a nearby facility in a storefront at the Village at Sandhill.

The Personal Teller Machines, known as PTMs, connect Columbia SAFE members with live tellers in Sumter, where the credit union is headquartered. The advanced machines are manufactured by NCR.

“Personal Teller Machines are the future when it comes to interacting with your financial institution,” said Hayes. “They offer all the advantages of a face-to-face teller, but they allow you the ultimate convenience of conducting your business from your vehicle.”

Hayes added, “We strive to help our members make money, save money, and save time in everything that they do with us. This is one more way we are helping them accomplish that.”

Drive-up PTM users can conduct most any transaction typically handled at a traditional drive-up window while face-to-face with a teller. The PTMs offer connections to tellers during normal branch hours but revert to regular ATM operation after hours.

The new branch, with seven employees, features six inside teller stations and five member service representative offices. It also offers safe deposit boxes with biometric access. Aggie Smith, with more than a decade in the credit union industry, is the branch manager.

Hayes noted that the new branch reflects a strategy of moving away from shopping center locations in favor of standalone sites that can offer more convenience for members. “We have plans to relocate some other branches in the near future, so that we can offer PTM drive-through lanes and other features that make banking with us even easier for our members,” Hayes said.

New Albany Surgery Center Performs the First Robotics-Assisted Total Knee Arthroplasty Using the NAVIO Surgical System in Ohio

Columbus, OH, August 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Mark Gittins of OrthoNeuro performed the first robotics-assisted total knee arthroplasty in the state of Ohio using the NAVIO Surgical System. The surgical milestone occurred on August 23rd at the New Albany Surgery Center and represents one of the first CT-free robotics-assisted total knee arthroplasty procedures using the NAVIO Surgical System in the world.

"The NAVIO system provided me with robotic assistance for precise and efficient implant placement,” said Dr. Gittins. “I was delighted to see how seamlessly it integrated into our standard workflow.”

Unlike other robotics-assisted platforms, the NAVIO system does not require a pre-operative CT-scan. Instead, the surgeon collects patient-specific data during the procedure to build a 3D model of the patient’s knee. This is used to plan the surgery. To perform the procedure, a handheld robotics-assisted tool (the NAVIO handpiece) is used to position NAVIO-specific cut guides exactly as intended, based on the patient-specific data previously collected. This extra layer of precision and accuracy is designed to enable optimal implant placement for better patient outcomes.

Dr. Gittins added, “The introduction of robotic assistance should have knee replacement candidates feeling very confident about the future of knee surgery. I believe this technology has great promise and will eventually be used in many orthopedic surgical procedures.”

Smith & Nephew, the manufacturer of the system, is committed to developing other robotics-assisted surgical applications for the system. In the United States, the NAVIO system has been used in unicondylar knee arthroplasty since December 2012, and patellofemoral arthroplasty since July 2014.

Tangible IP Announces Completed Sale of Semiconductor Patent Portfolio

The identity of the buyer and the financials of the agreement were not disclosed.

After a successful career both as an academic and with Rockwell Semiconductor, Dr. Park embarked on a long journey to continue his research in a related field and built along the way a rich portfolio of patents around various types of memory (DRAM, SRAM) and wireless (Bluetooth) chips. After the inventor passed away, his estate was subsequently referred to and contacted Tangible IP to help analyze the portfolio and reach out to buyers.

“When my husband passed away, we did not fully realize the extent of the technical contributions he had made to his field and how his patents reflected his innovative spirit,” said Mrs. Kieun Park, wife of the inventor. “We also did not know anyone who could help us monetize this patent portfolio.
