KPC Group to Unleash Its New 4D Seismic Data technology on South Africa’s West Coast

Manama, Bahrain, December 05, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Recent estimates by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) put South Africa's recoverable offshore gas at 9 trillion cubic feet (Tcf), while there is another 9 Tcf of unconventional gas located in the arid Karoo desert and some 1.5 Tcf of CBM gas.

Faisal Madhol – KPC Groups Senior Geophysical Analyst said, “We have been testing and refining our latest 4D technology for the last 2 years and are now ready to go live, we believe that South Africa’s current discoveries are minor when you compare them to the gas field finds off Argentina or the North Sea and are confident our new technology will be able to discover significantly more of South Africa's hydrocarbon resources.”

Rising Domestic Demand for Gas
South Africa currently consumes some 180 billion cubic feet of gas per year, of which imports of 120 billion cubic feet (Bcf) arrive by pipeline from central Mozambique for customers in Johannesburg (source: EIA, January 2016). With the prospect of rising demand for gas in South Africa, ROMPCO, the pipeline operator, plans to increase capacity from 88 million gigajoules per year to 212 million gigajoules per year by the end of 2017 (source: Engineering News).

Value of 4D
The value of 4D seismic technology when properly applied continues to grow. New technology like the KPC Groups are the reasons for the technology gaining value. The growth from qualitative tool to quantitative reservoir management tool has come over a short time span, too.

The specific advantages depend upon the development stage of a field. The benefits range from more successful well siting to shortening the time to production to extending the producing life of the field.

At the front end, 4D can help place a new well in the optimal spot by indicating how the reservoir is likely to perform. It also can stretch the production time between initial completion and uneconomical water saturation. In a field under development drilling, an eye on 4D data can help determine how the reservoir is acting to improve the placement of each successive well. It also can help in tapping productive partitions within a field that otherwise would not flow.

In older fields, 4D seismic can help locate unproduced hydrocarbons. Assessment of the remaining hydrocarbons can determine if additional drilling is cost-efficient. Locating fluid fronts in older fields can alert the operator to expected breakthroughs.

Profound Technologies Licenses New Laser Strike Recording App for the Aviation Community

Profound Technologies, a new technology firm, has acquired a license to develop and market the technology which is a Laser Event Recorder App (LERApp) from the Defense Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), a division of the UK Minister of Defense.

Scientists at the Defense Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) have developed an innovative app that analyses laser dazzle events, making it quicker and easier for the police to arrest and prosecute offenders, deter the targeting of aircraft and allow pilots to take steps to prevent themselves from being dazzled.

Laser Event Recorder app (LERapp) has been developed using an iPhone. It utilizes the inbuilt camera, GPS and connectivity to record, analyze and communicate details of the incident. The app can be modified for use on Android phones and other platforms.

The key benefits of the LERapp are:

-Low cost solution – pilots can use their own phone.
-Easy and intuitive to use.
-Allows pilots to take steps to prevent them being dazzled.
-Makes it easier for the police to identify arrest and prosecute offenders.
-Deters people from using lasers irresponsibly.

With this license, future development will include adding an early warning feature that will alert other aircraft approaching (in real time) an area recently struck by a laser to avoid the area and/or take necessary precautions (like putting on protective eyewear). The second Phase will include the ability to identify the location of the perpetrator and report to law enforcement.

Commenting on today’s announcement the Dstl scientist who developed the LERapp, Craig Williamson, said:

“The LERapp has the potential to significantly improve aviation safety. It is another example of the innovative and exciting work that Dstl is doing. Like much of our work, there are clear uses outside the military and security environments. The Easy Access IP scheme is a great opportunity to build new links with industry, and reflects our increasing openness to partnering and collaboration.”

Trainz 15th Anniversary Celebration - Latest Product Release

VeroVision Mail Screener Product Reveals Narcotics Smuggling Attempt at California Jail

Just two days later, while the VeroVision Mail Screener was being used to routinely scan inmate mail, it detected an illicit material concealed within a particular envelope.

According to a November 16 press release issued by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

"On November 3, 2016, just two days after the installation of the VeroVision Mail Screener, Suboxone, also known as Buprenorphine, was found concealed within the seam of an envelope which was to be delivered to an inmate housed in the facility. The drug was in the form of a film strip that dissolves under the tongue, and is not easily detected with common visual inspection. Buprenorphine is a narcotic, a powerful and potentially addicting painkiller. According to a report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) over half of the 30,000 hospitalizations involving buprenorphine in 2010 were for non-medical use."

Illicit drugs that are concealed and smuggled into prisons is one of the more costly issues facing correctional facilities. The sale and use of illicit substances by inmates contributes to increased violence and heightened medical costs. The VeroVision Mail Screener was designed to address drug detection at one of the common points of entry for drug contraband: the correctional facility mail room. The system provides easy objective, one-click drug detection in less than 10 seconds. The Mail Screener can detect a number of illicit drugs and common cutting agents concealed on or within envelopes and paper, under stamps and stickers, and even mixed with crayon, markers or paint.

Intelligent-Appliance IA-2600 Series includes 96-ch Digital Input modules, 96-ch Digital Output modules and 48-ch/48-ch Digital I/O modules.

The IA-2600 Series Digital Input ranges from 3V to 30VDC while the Logic Circuit operational voltage and their pull-up resistors can be easily switched between +3.3V to +5V, using a software command, to best fit the tested equipment.

Software proof manual jumpers are included, in order to select the pull-up source voltage between the internal Logic circuits power supply and the External equipment power source, which can be in the range of GND to a Positive voltage of up to 30VDC.

IA-2600 Series Digital Input Logic may be defined by a software command as an “Active” Logic kind or as s plain “Level” kind.

This IA-2600 Series includes 3 kinds of output stages:

Output Sink current, with an NPN Open Collector output stage, capable of handling a current of up to 300mA per a single channel or up to 90mA per channel while operating all output channels.

An output stage of Open Source, with a PNP Open Collector output stage capable of sourcing a current of up to 50mA per channel, 500ma peak. Those Open Sink and Open Source devices can handle up to 50V at their output stage.

The third output stage is of LVTTL and TTL buffered bidirectional kind, capable of Sinking or Sourcing a current of up to 25mA per channel. These modules can operate at 3.3V or 5V DC Supply Voltage that is being set by a software command and can yield a different output voltage, accordingly.

These modules are mainly used in ATS equipment, in PC/PLC combined systems and in cases where Digital I/O is needed to be operated by USB, Ethernet or Internet, without the need to install cards into PC bus, and handle special dedicated connectors.

The software support package includes Visual Studio DLL, Open Code software examples and software utilities for immediate operation and software commands evaluation.

The new IA-2600 series is joining a long line of feature reach, reliable and cutting edge products developed by Intelligent-Appliance including Industrial Data Acquisition and Control, Communication, Peer to Peer, Digital and Analog I/O modules, USB Relay board Controllers, RS-232 and Motion Control.
