TÜV SÜD Appointed Certified Body for UK Government’s Cyber Essentials

Fareham, United Kingdom, July 04, 2017 --(PR.com)-- TÜV SÜD United Kingdom has achieved Certified Body status for the UK Government’s Cyber Essentials programme, which is designed to protect organisations from cyber security threats.

Organisations certified by TÜV SÜD can promote that their IT systems comply with a Government-endorsed standard, demonstrating that they are protecting their own and their customers’ data by having a robust and secure IT environment.

Cyber Essentials is now mandatory for suppliers of Government contracts, which involve handling personal information, and providing ICT products and services. It will also enable organisations to prove they have taken the appropriate risk mitigation steps to comply with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Organisations in non-compliance with the GDPR after 25th May 2018 could face heavy fines of up to four per cent of annual global turnover in the event of a data breach.

Ewan Fisher, Shared Services Centre Performance & Operations Manager at TÜV SÜD United Kingdom, said, “Cyber criminals target every size of organisation, both large and small. Cyber Essentials helps them to combat cyber attacks, the majority of which exploit basic IT system vulnerabilities. By making it easier for organisations to protect themselves, they are less likely to suffer data loss, which could have a significant impact in terms of lost revenue or reputation, as well as result in fines or prosecution.

“As a globally recognised provider of independent testing, inspection and certification, TÜV SÜD is the perfect Certified Body partner for an organisation that wishes to become Cyber Essentials certified so it can proactively demonstrate its commitment to IT security and the protection of customer data,” concluded Fisher.

Just under half (46%) of all UK businesses identified at least one cyber security breach or attack in the last twelve months. This rises to two-thirds among medium firms (66%) and larger firms (68%)*.

The Cyber Essentials standard covers five key areas:
· Secure configuration - security measures that are implemented when building and installing computers and network devices in order to reduce unnecessary cyber vulnerabilities.
· Boundary firewalls and internet gateways - provide a basic level of protection where a user connects to the Internet.
· Access control and administrative privilege management - protects user accounts and helps to prevent misuse of privileged accounts.
· Patch management – ensures that software on computers and network devices is up to date and capable of resisting low-level cyber attacks.
· Malware protection - protects against a broad range of malware (including computer viruses, worms, spyware, botnets and ransomware).

Long Term Evolution (LTE) Emulator for X2 Interface

Speaking to the press, Mr. Jagdish Vadalia, a Senior Manager for product development of the company said, “Mobile networks are in the process of transitioning to Long Term Evolution, a Fourth Generation (4G), all packet network architecture. It will permit vastly higher data rates to mobile smart phones, making voice, video, and data truly integrated for the first time - through a single access technology.

“In simple terms, LTE consists of a "Packet Core" and a network of eNodeBs. eNodeBs have two interfaces, the X2 interface permits eNodeBs to talk to each other directly, and the S1 interface permits talking to the 'Packet Core'.”

He added, “GL’s enhanced LTE X2AP Interface Emulation tests and verifies eNodeB implementations through its MAPS architecture. Message Automation & Protocol Simulation (MAPS™) is a multi-protocol, multi-technology platform used for the emulation of a variety of communication protocols over IP, TDM, and Wireless networks. MAPS™ can be used to test signaling over legacy networks (such as CAS, SS7, ISDN, PPP and more), IP networks (such as SIP, MGCP, MEGACO, SIGTRAN, Diameter...) and also Wireless technologies including GSM, UMTS, and LTE networks.”

Mr.Vadalia further explained, “MAPS™ X2 Application Protocol (X2-AP) Interface Emulator is used to co-ordinate handovers and perform load management between eNodeB (Evolved Node B) network elements - Source eNodeB and Target eNodeB. The MAPS™ X2-AP test tool is designed with specific test cases, as per LTE 3GPP mobile standards. It supports powerful utilities like Message Editor, Script Editor, and Profile Editor which allow new scenarios to be created or existing scenarios to be modified using messages and parameters.

“The application can be integrated within GL’s End-to-End Communications Network Lab (EE-CNL) providing reliable solution to vendors and service providers for simulation, monitoring, and troubleshooting the network using ‘MAPS™ 4G Wireless Lab Suite’.”

He further added, “MAPS™ X2 Application Protocol can be configured as Source eNodeB or Target eNodeB terminals in the LTE network over X2 interface to handle UE and Non-UE associated procedures. The Non-UE procedures (X2AP Setup, Reset request, ENB Configuration Update, and Resource Status request) are automatically handled once the application is started. The UE procedures (Mobility Management – Handover, Error Indication) are handled in the Call Generation.”

Department of Defense Talks Autonomy

NM Cabling Prepared for the Start of Yachting Season
