Bull Trusts Allinea DDT and Allinea MAP for Major Upgrade at Météo France

$

Paris, France, February 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Allinea DDT and Allinea MAP will play a key role in a critical computer upgrade for France’s national weather service.

Météo-France operates under the country’s Ministry of Sustainable Development, with a mission to observe and forecast the atmosphere, snow cover, and oceans’ surface to ensure the security of life and property in France and its territories. Météo-France also takes part in global climate-change research with various partners.

The agency has been doing this crucial work on a vector supercomputer with a limited capability of 40 teraflops.

In 2013, Bull will install two supercomputers in Toulouse, one at Météopole and the other at the new Espace Clément Ader research centre. Each supercomputer will be rated at more than 500 TeraFlops, for total processing power of more than 1 PetaFlop. By 2016, the systems will be further upgraded for a computing capability of more than 5 PetaFlops.

“For the first phase, we will significantly increase the computing power,” said Damien Déclat, the project’s director for Bull. “Computing power is a key element for meteorology and climate science. This upgrade will enable further progress in weather forecasting and climate research for Météo-France. As an example, the Meteo-France's local area model (called AROME) will be much more geographically precise thanks to the new configuration and thanks to the different tools allowing an efficient use of the computer."

One major challenge of this upgrade is porting applications to work smoothly on the new computers. To ease this problem, Bull selected Allinea DDT, the most advanced debugging tool available and Allinea MAP, a Message Passing Interface (MPI) profiler that is equally elegant and simple to use. Both Allinea DDT and Allinea MAP have been fully integrated in the bullx supercomputer software suite powering the bullx supercomputers, and developers will need only minimal training before they can start spotting bottlenecks and the lines of code that slow down their applications.

“Météo-France users will benefit from using these two products to debug, profile, and optimize applications, which is a big improvement that will lead to more efficient codes running on the supercomputers,” said Olivier David, Alliances Director at Bull. “The time you don’t spend on debugging, you can be running the application to get scientific results. At the end of the day, you just want to focus on science and that’s why we need Allinea Software.”

The project is the result of a long, collaborative RFP process. Today, developers at Météo-France are working on a small supercomputer with the Allinea tools to preview how their applications will work on the powerful new technology.

“Our easy-to-use GUI will be critical in easing this shift,” said David Lecomber, COO of Allinea Software. “Allinea Software is having a large impact on climate research centres and the meteorological world. Our adoption by Météo-France is another endorsement of our tools’ ability to handle the development challenges of large-scale data intensive software.”

Sparkling Logic Pushes the Limits of Decision Management Testing

Sunnyvale, CA, February 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Sparkling Logic today announced the general availability of Johannesburg, the latest release of their SMARTS™ next-generation decision management system. This release is focused on improving the business user’s confidence and comfort-level as they author decision logic. With this latest release, business experts can complement traditional decision testing and verification with a new approach to data validation. Business experts can document expected data values or ranges of values in the decision management interface, and explore whether their decision logic execution is compliant with those expectations.

"Focusing on business rules in the abstract has made it hard for business experts to sign off with confidence on decision quality," said Carole-Ann Matignon, Sparkling Logic CEO. “This new approach to decision testing, by involving use cases further, remains true to the SMARTS vision: we thrive to create an experience for the business that is practical and effective.”

The data constraints introduced in the Johannesburg release of SMARTS are multi-faceted:

· Decision authors can ensure that their decision logic applies properly and returns valid results.
· They can easily detect unexpected values in the decision input data – so that root causes, such as demographic shifts, that might indicate the need for adjustments to decision logic can be easily detected.
· They can drive rule authoring or test case creation by providing lists of valid values to select from. Many organizations define these valid values as standard look-up tables, stored in a database or file system – SMARTS makes it easy to connect to these constraint definitions in external sources.

SMARTS’ latest release also delivers improvements to rule verification which analyzes decision logic for completeness and consistency, making it possible for rule authors to identify problems in their decision logic that would otherwise be difficult to uncover.

ROI of Supply Chain Management Systems Encouraging Increased Adoption: Constellation Research

$

Irvine, CA, February 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Constellation Research, Inc. the research and advisory firm focused on disruptive technologies today announced the publication of “Current Trends in Supply Chain Management: Adoption and Customer Experience” by Constellation Vice President and Principal Analyst, Frank Scavo. This research report, based on a survey conducted by Computer Economics, finds that positive economic characteristics of SCM investments are encouraging further adoption of this strategic technology.

Some key findings of this report:

Organizations that have implemented SCM technology report strong return on investment (ROI), although they must carefully manage the total cost of ownership (TCO).
The strong ROI characteristics of SCM are encouraging smaller and midsize companies to join their larger peers in adopting the technology.
SCM technology providers offer increasingly sophisticated capabilities, at price points that encourage further adoption.
The complexity of these applications, combined with the need to change business processes, however, mean that organizations will need to focus on change management in order to realize SCM benefits.

The report provides enterprise buyers with a view of the current adoption trends and economic experiences of organizations that have implemented supply chain management (SCM) software. It also offers practical guidelines for implementation success. For SCM technology providers, this paper provides an overview of current market and investment trends among organizations planning or considering investment in new SCM capabilities.

“These days, even small and mid-size businesses have global supply chains and complex offshore manufacturing relationships,” Scavo said. “So, it’s not surprising that our survey found SCM adoption increasing among smaller firms as well as larger organizations.”

Based on data from the Computer Economics survey, this report quantifies the current adoption and investment trends for SCM systems as well as the benefits that drive companies to expand their SCM implementations. The report assesses these trends by organization size, sector and geography. In terms of economics, the report analyzes the ROI and TCO experience of those that have adopted SCM along with current investment per SCM user. They conclude with practical advice for those considering investment in SCM technology.

This report fits into Constellation’s business-focused research theme: Technology Optimization and Innovation.

Launch of Free Android App: 10 Steps to Lucid Dreams

$

Auckland, New Zealand, February 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The hit website, World of Lucid Dreaming, has launched a free tutorial-based Android application, 10 Steps to Lucid Dreams.

Written by an expert in lucid dreaming, the app creates a structured lesson plan for "waking up" in your dreams, starting with improving your nightly dream recall.

"This is the first step to having lucid dreams," says Rebecca Turner, author of the app and creator of the popular website, World-of-Lucid-Dreaming.com.

"Dream recall is where you begin - after that, it can get kind of trippy, with reality checks, visualizations, techniques for walking your mind directly into the dream state, and even triggering out-of-body experiences and astral travel. These are all powerful but internally-generated extensions of the lucid dream experience."

The 10 tutorials are accessible to all ages and levels of experience, with one exception - Step #7: Dream Herbs. "On day 7, I bust some myths on the most popular dream-enhancing herbs. This step is totally optional - and if you're under 18, you should consult your parents first. Certain supplements can have powerful effects on your dreams and users take them at their own risk!"

So what's the most powerful step? "It's unrealistic to identify any single step as working in isolation," Rebecca explains, "but combine these tried-and-tested techniques, and I'm confident many people will have a lucid dream during the course."

Android users can download the app for free at the Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=worldofluciddreaming.apps.tenstepstoluciddreams

About Lucid Dreaming

Lucid dreaming is the ability to become conscious (self-aware) within the dream state. It is a scientifically proven sleep state that has been recently popularized by sci-fi movies and new sleep mask and app technologies. Today there are millions of lucid dreamers in the world and millions more who seek to "wake up" in their dreams...

The result? An amazing virtual reality world, where everything looks and feels as vivid as waking life. And yet, the laws of physics do not apply: anything is possible. "This state of heightened awareness tells us a lot about human perception," Rebecca says, "and just how powerful the human brain really is."

About World of Lucid Dreaming

World-of-Lucid-Dreaming.com is a content-rich website dedicated to lucid dreaming and other altered states of awareness. Run by seasoned lucid dreamer, Rebecca Turner, the site generates 500,000 page views per month. It features multimedia content based on lucid dreaming techniques, expert interviews, sleep studies, paranormal investigations and first-hand accounts of dream phenomena.

QA Graphics Helps Longwood University Educate the Public about Biomass Heating Plant

Des moines, IA, February 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Longwood University, located in Farmville, Virginia, looked to QA Graphics to create a 3D animated video to educate students and the public about the campus’ biomass heating plant and demonstrate the university’s commitment to sustainability.

Longwood is the only public institution of higher education in Virginia and one of only two state agencies that burns biomass for heating fuel. The university has practiced sustainability by heating with biomass fuel (sawdust) for nearly 30 years. In 2011 Longwood opened a new biomass heating plant, which provides almost 100 percent of the campus’ heat and hot water.

To educate others on the campus’ sustainable efforts, Longwood University’s Energy Manager, Kevin Miller, sought out QA Graphics to develop an animated video that would visually demonstrate how the fuel-efficient plant operates. Longwood had worked with QA Graphics previously, purchasing their BAS graphics module for the university’s Tridium system. Having been impressed by the quality of the BAS graphics, and having a good working relationship with the sales staff, they also looked to QA Graphics for help with this video as the company has over six years of experience helping organizations create awareness about sustainable initiatives through solutions like animated videos and their Energy Efficiency Education Dashboard®.

To create the video, Longwood University provided photographs and a general outline of what the video should entail to accurately depict the plant process. From there, QA Graphics’ 3D design team took the lead, finalizing the storyline and creating a full 3D scene including models of trucks, equipment and the plant to illustrate the facility’s operations. The video demonstrates the entire process, starting with the logging and sawmill operations creating sawdust, trucks hauling the sawdust to the biomass processing facility, how it’s stored in silos and then burned to heat the boilers and create steam that’s distributed throughout the campus.

The video is currently being shown at tradeshows and during presentations about the plant to educate others on the plant’s operations. “The last show made me confident that it accomplishes our goals. It was simple enough for high school students to comprehend, but done professionally enough so that architects and engineers appreciated the video as well,” said Kevin Miller, Energy Manager at Longwood University.

“It has gotten a lot of attention for us at the shows. Everyone remarks at the quality and almost immediately asks who made the video,” said Miller. “We plan on adding a url to any future grant proposals that we seek, so in essence it is a versatile marketing tool for us.”

QA Graphics has helped many organizations similar to Longwood University educate about their sustainable initiatives. With a team of mechanical engineers, architects, and creative staff, QA Graphics is able to take technical concepts and visually explain them in a way that’s very easy to understand. The company has created similar demonstrations that illustrate how sustainable building features work, such as geothermal systems, wind turbines, green roofs, photovoltaic systems and more. With a rendering farm onsite, the company provides affordable and quick turnarounds on the 3D graphics and animations. Learn more at www.qagraphics.com/multimedia/videos.

Vienna, Austria, February 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Indoor positioning and mapping is expected to be the next big innovation shaping the mapping and localization industry and one of the "Top 15 Emerging Technologies To Watch" according to Forrester Research (1). Existing "outdoor" solutions, such as from Google, Nokia, and Microsoft, are ubiquitous on today’s mobile devices and critical for the success of any mobile platform. However, people spend 90% of their time indoors, where existing solutions that rely on GPS rarely function.

To determine a user’s indoors location, indoo.rs' mobile technology combines available signals from the device sensors (including accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, and compass) with ambient electromagnetic signals such as Wi-Fi, geomagnetic fields and Bluetooth. The indoo.rs platform allows for the rapid creation and scalable management of indoor maps as well.

The technology of indoo.rs is used today by customers and partners to deliver on B2B and B2C use cases, in venues such as airports, shopping malls and convention centers, and in segments ranging from retail to public safety.

The indoo.rs platform and SDK enable application developers to incorporate indoor positioning and navigation capabilities into their applications and deliver end-to-end solutions to their customers. indoo.rs also allows device and chip manufacturers to run computationally intensive and sensor fusion code natively in their platforms for increased speed, higher accuracy and optimal battery power efficiency.

“Our technological lead has been confirmed repeatedly by leading industry experts. The feedback we obtain in discussions with hardware manufacturers and indoor mapping providers during a roadshow facilitated by SpeedInvest in the US validates our approach." says Bernd Gruber, co-founder and CEO of indoo.rs. “This investment round combines the financial strength of the tecnet fund, the active involvement of SpeedInvest and strategic opportunities offered by TechInvest to support the expansion of indoo.rs’ technology lead.”

Investors providing capital and know-how

“This technological lead was a crucial factor in the investment decision,” said Werner Zahnt, Partner at SpeedInvest. "We have been following and assisting the indoo.rs team for two years, and are pleased to now have taken another step forward in the relationship. SpeedInvest has intensified its activities supporting the indoo.rs team and is increasing their presence in the US market. “

Sunnyvale, CA, February 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Bloombase, the information security company, today announced its Bloombase Cryptographic Module has been placed on the In-Process List for the FIPS 140-2 (Federal Processing Standards Publication) Validation by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the United States and by the Communications Security Establishment in Canada.

"This is a major development for the company, having our products certified enforces our committment to providing the most secure information protection solutions for our customers safeguarding their mission critical IT systems and sensitive data," said Harry Xiang, VP of Product Development of Bloombase. "Achieving NIST module in-process listing for FIPS 140-2 validation for our transparent cryptographic technology is a testament to our ongoing strategy of providing reliable and trusted information security solutions for enterprises and organizations. We remain focused on collaborating with third-party organizations such as NIST to ensure that our products and solutions meet the highest criteria levels set by these bodies and exceed industry and regulatory requirements."

NIST FIPS 140-2 is a US government computer security standard used to accredit cryptographic modules and to certify private sector vendor products for use in government departments and regulated industries that collect, store, transfer, share and disseminate sensitive information. FIPS 140-2 validation is a requirement for any cryptographic product which will be used in a US government agency network. The United States Federal Government is required to purchase cryptographic products validated to the FIPS 140-2 standard. In the international marketplace, ISO/IEC 19790 is being adopted as a worldwide standard and is a direct adaptation of NIST FIPS 140-2.

The validation process involves both an algorithm validation where various cryptographic cipher algorithms supported by the module are to be tested independently, and then a module validation to test the operation and security of the module as a whole. The Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 validation specifies security requirements necessary for a cryptographic module to be utilized within government security systems protecting sensitive, but unclassified information. Security level 2 certified cryptographic modules meet all the basic level 1 requirements plus many more additional requirements such as tamper evidence, role and identity based user authentication, etc.

Bloombase is currently in process of receiving NIST FIPS 140-2 validation and is listed on the NIST website at http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/STM/cmvp/documents/140-1/140InProcess.pdf. Final validation is expected to be completed by mid 2009.
