Aspect Ratio Presets in iResizer 2.5 Promote Cropless Pre-Print Adjustment

Alexandria, VA, June 21, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Historically, print formats and aspect ratios are different from those of a typical digital camera. Printing 11x14 or 5x7 photos from a standard 4:3 or 3:2 often means painful cropping of a picture. iResizer, this small yet capable utility, saves the day when it comes to changing the aspect ratio of a photo to make it fit standard paper sizes.

A user now can select a destination aspect ratio preset, click a button and watch the photo size magically (read: croplessly) changes while all crucial objects on the photo stay intact. How is that? The key is a special algorithm iResizer applies. Technically, this looks as follows. A user selects zones on the image he wants to preserve their size and aspect, and specifies the desired picture format, size and aspect ratio. The program automatically does the rest.

Version 2.5 also brings a lot of other improvements: the support for HiDPI and Retina displays, optimized memory usage for higher performance, aforementioned aspect ratio presets and a bunch of GUI fixes.

This also allows for errors in typing to be eliminated. Individuals may enter an unlimited number of replacement text combinations. The replacement text may be up to 65,536 characters in length.

Solar Powered LEDtronics LED Area Lights Offer Security to Mesa Residential Community

Torrance, CA, June 21, 2014 --(PR.com)-- When residents of the Park Centre Casitas residential community in Mesa, Arizona, got together and hired a security company to survey the property and suggest ways to keep it safe, the security company suggested adding perimeter lighting.

Having received approval from the city’s utility department, residents of the complex, which consists of 192 condominium-style units in 25 buildings a few blocks north of downtown Mesa, first considered conventional lighting. After receiving a few quotes from various vendors, it became apparent that the cost would be too great, not to mention the inconvenience, time and installation hazards. They began to look for alternatives.

The city’s Energy Resources Department encouraged them to take advantage of its just-launched solar pilot program for customers in its electric service area. The program provided financial incentives and, if they used LED lighting powered by photovoltaic panels, there would be no additional cost for trenching, underground wiring and expensive power poles.

A modern-day urban retreat surrounded by the Sonoran Desert and with over 325 sun-drenched days a year, solar energy opportunities abound in Mesa — the third largest city in Arizona, some 15 miles east of Phoenix. The Park Centre Casitas residents decided to accept the city's offer.

This brought them to LEDtronics. With the help of the local representative, Howard Industrial Sales, a shipment was arranged of 10 shoebox-style LED luminaires specifically designed for alternative-energy sources. Operating on a voltage input range of 10-to-30VDC, the LEDtronics SLL003-400-TPW-10/30VM3 units consume only 23 watts and can replace metal-halide area lights up to 100W. They are ideal for parking lots, parks, walkways and pole-mounted area and periphery lighting.

In addition, for a desert city like Mesa, LED lighting reduces light pollution — no wasted light, and conforms to the international “Dark Skies Initiative.” The City completed the installation, including the LEDs, solar panels, battery boxes and light poles. Four lights were installed, with the rest reserved for emergency service and replacement. Now the residents feel safer strolling after dark to the ball field where the Chicago Cubs have their winter home, within walking distance from the Casitas.

In a bid to pursue a more energy-efficient, healthy and sustainable environment, the City of Mesa so far has installed over 840 kW of renewable solar energy inside its service area, and more solar projects are in progress.

IJIS Institute Working Group Tackles PREA Information Sharing Challenges

Ashburn, VA, June 22, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The IJIS Institute—a nonprofit organization that focuses on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety, and homeland security—announces the formation and convening of a new Working Group to address the information sharing challenges that arise from the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). The PREA Working Group (PWG), funded through a grant from the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, held its first meeting in Ashburn, Virginia, on June 10 – 12, 2014.

The PWG’s primary goal is the creation of a consensus-based national PREA Data Standard using the Global Standards Package and leveraging the Global Privacy Technology Framework to address concerns inherent to PREA victimization. The data standard will provide consistent details about the victim, perpetrator, and circumstances surrounding an incident, which will exponentially improve overall information sharing, data analysis, and data quality and inform the need for corrective action by correctional and other confinement administrators. The PREA data standard will use an agency’s existing technology infrastructure and allow individual agencies to decide what, how, and with whom information is shared.

The IJIS Institute’s PWG consists of representative of the American Correctional Association (ACA), the American Jail Association (AJA), the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA), the Corrections Technology Association (CTA), the Council of State Governments Justice Center, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and the National Institute of Corrections (NIC). The PWG is also supported by practitioner advisors from six state corrections agencies and other PREA experts who will help evaluate PWG work products. IJIS Institute members representing industry on the PWG are Fred Roesel from Marquis Software and Bob Slaski from Open Networks.

The IJIS Institute’s executive director, Steve Ambrosini, noted, “This PWG contains a very high caliber of experienced individuals who have volunteered to be part of this important effort. Putting these people on this critical task is going to result is fantastic work in overcoming PREA information sharing obstacles.”
